President Donald Trump has paused an increase in tariffs on upholstered furniture and cabinets for one year. The current tariffs will remain in place as the president and his trade team continue negotiations with foreign trade partners.

President Trump enacted the tariffs on lumber last year in response to a Commerce Department investigation, which “found that the present quantities and circumstances of the imports of wood products threatened to impair national security.”
The president also stated the importance of his ability to implement tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), as the Supreme Court deliberates the constitutionality of the actions.
“Tariffs are an overwhelming benefit to our Nation, as they have been incredible for our National Security and Prosperity (like nobody has ever seen before!),” President Trump stated. “Losing our ability to Tariff other countries who treat us unfairly would be a terrible blow to the United States of America.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for President Trump and members of his trade team as they pursue new trade agreements with other nations.
- For Secretary Lutnick and officials in the Commerce Department as they assess the state of U.S. imports and exports.
- For justices of the U.S. Supreme Court to be discerning regarding the president’s declaration of an economic emergency as the basis of his tariff measures.
